The Almshouses
The charity manages unfurnished dwellings for people aged over 60, or 50 for those who have a disability. Applicants must have resided in the parishes of Windermere or Ambleside for at least 10 of the last 30 years. There is a variety of one or two bedroomed properties spread across the scheme which are a mixture of stone built cottages and some newer build bungalows. All properties have fire/smoke alarms and have a call alarm in case of emergencies.
The trust encourages residents to enjoy independence while living in a comfortable and secure environment. Residents should feel confident in the knowledge that support will always be available, whether from the trust itself or from outside agencies, should the need arise. Above all, the trust respects residents’ privacy. |
The Warden
Our Warden supports the general wellbeing of residents without interfering in their lives or intruding on their privacy. Wardens are not trained carers and cannot therefore offer personal care support. They can, however, liaise on your behalf with a wide range of local health and social services to ensure that you receive the help you need to remain safe and independent in your home. These services might include help with personal care and hygiene, meal preparation and provision, cleaning or shopping or the provision of physiotherapy or occupational therapy aides for use around the home. The service providers may make a charge for this. In an emergency the warden will call for help on your behalf and notify your family and friends.
The warden’s hours of duty are from 9am – 12 noon 2pm – 4pm Every day – except Wednesday The warden lives on site at number 14. Please remember, however, that when the warden is off duty, she should not be called to attend to routine matters which could be left until the following morning. We also have a part time warden who will cover days off and holiday/sickness absences. |
